Spring Clean 2015!

Join us in saying goodbye to winter and hello to the spring this month with a top to bottom spring clean of your home!

Here at Scott & Sons, we understand that in today’s modern society, we don’t have the time to be scrubbing floorboards and washing every ornament in the house like our grandparents might have done, back in the day. That’s why we’ve come up with some clever and quick ways for you to whizz round your home and get the cleaning done and dusted this spring. So whether you don’t have the time or don’t like cleaning, there are no excuses if you use our handy tips!

Rugs, mattresses, pillows and cushions
Hang them on your washing line outside and beat the with a tennis racket to get rid of all the dust – it’s a great stress reliever too!

Shower head

Limescale can build up on and around the shower head, but rather than awkwardly scrubbing around it with a descaler, simply detach the head, pop it in a bag, add the descaler, seal with a rubber band and leave it to work its magic.

Carpets

Carpets are prone to collecting and trapping hair, whether it’s our own or pet hair. Vacuuming will work the hair loose eventually, but this does take a lot of hard work – and sweating! Instead, try running a squeegee over the carpet and it will gather any hair or fluff together so you can pop it in the bin. Simple.

Microwave

We’ve all accidentally left something in the microwave for too long and come back to it to find an explosion all over the inside. To clean and freshen up a dingy microwave, place a bowl with a mixture of one third vinegar and two thirds water inside – you could even add some lemon for a fresh, zesty smell.  Set it on the highest setting for ten minutes, then remove the bowl and wipe the inside of the microwave so it is dry and clean.

Curtains

Lint rollers are a godsend for these sort of jobs. Whether it’s curtains, lamp shades or blinds, just peel off a layer to reveal a fresh, sticky sheet and roll over your surface to collect any bits.

Surfaces

Wear a damp mitten or sock over your hand and wipe over surface areas, dado rails, banisters or in between the slats of Venetian blinds to collect any lurking dust and dirt.

Top tip!

Recipe for homemade, natural polish solution:

One part lemon juice, two parts of olive oil, shake well, leave in fridge. When you come to use it, take it out and let it warm up to room temperature before you begin your dusting duties!

So there you have it, our top tips for a quick and easy spring clean, so now you can get yourself outside and enjoy the lovely sunshine!
