MoonWalk London 2014

Here at Scott and Sons, we continue our support for Joanne as she completes another charity sponsored walk this month!

After successfully completing The Marsden March less than two months ago, Joanne Scott is participating in the sponsored MoonWalk London 2014 raising money for vital breast cancer causes.

Founded and organised by charity Walk the Walk, uniting against breast cancer, the walk this year will take place on Saturday 10th May 2014, starting and finishing in Clapham Common, taking walkers on a route through Central London past iconic sights such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye to name a few.

By participating, walkers are not only completing a personal goal, they are also making a real difference through sponsorship towards breast cancer causes who are in great need of funds. A spectacle of thousands of women and men will be power-walking either a ‘half moon’ half marathon of 13.1 miles or a ‘full moon’ full marathon of 26 miles distance, sporting the trademark decorated bra to raise awareness of the cause.

Contrary to the name of walk, no Michael Jackson dance moves are required to take part; although this year is a Rockabilly theme so walkers can replace their trainers with a pair of blue suede shoes and boogie their way to the finish line!

To prepare for the event, organisers encourage healthy eating and exercise so that participants can enjoy the dynamic energy, camaraderie and passion of the walk. Walk the Walk will be with you from registration to the finish line and will provide you with everything you need for this unique experience.

For those who don’t fancy partaking in the power-walking but want to support the event, volunteering is the ideal option. Volunteering activities include marshals to guide and support the route, drivers to get the team around central London and lively characters to greet all walkers and provide them with the food, water and blankets they’ll need.

Walk the Walk started in 1996 when 13 women power-walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. What began as a one-off fundraising event has grown into a thriving multi-million pound charity, raising in excess of £83 million to date. Walk the Walk works with charities big and small that are involved with breast cancer and grants funds to where they know it will make the most difference.

Their policy is to support breast cancer-related research and those affected by cancer now. Therefore, any donation big or small genuinely makes such a big difference to support these charities and raise awareness about the work they do. Whether you make a contribution to Joanne’s Everyday Hero fundraising page, or decide to take a trip to London and cheer on the walkers, your support is greatly valued.

So once again, Scott and Sons want to say a massive GOOD LUCK JOANNE!
